Bragging on our four Holston camps
February 21, 2011
I enjoyed my time last month with the United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries National Leaders Gathering at Lake Junaluska, N.C. Nineteen folks from Holston Conference attended. This biennial meeting offers opportunities for training, worship, inspiration, and networking among camp and retreat ministries throughout the UMC connection.
Jack and Ruth Porter, former directors of Camp Wesley Woods, and retired into Holston, received the "Legacy of Leadership" recognition. With one other leader, the Porters are the first to receive this honor.
I was given the opportunity to preach (see photo), be the celebrant for Holy Communion, meet with Holston’s delegation, and lead a “Learning Experience” with Bishop Pete Weaver of the New England Area. It was an excellent opportunity to brag on the great evangelism ministry going on at our four camps in Holston. The next gathering will be in Florida in 2013.
