Thank you, Holston
November 14, 2011
On Nov. 3, Bishop Fritz Mutti, chair of the United Methodist Global AIDS Fund, announced to the Council of Bishops and visitors that the Holston Annual Conference led the entire denomination in giving to the Global AIDS Fund with a contribution of $259,000.
Twenty-five percent of the contribution will be returned to Holston Conference for ministry with persons suffering from HIV/AIDS. We have a ministry like that called Strength for the Journey. Strength for the Journey is a week-long opportunity for persons suffering from HIV/AIDS throughout the southeastern U.S. to gather for fellowship and worship at Buffalo Mountain Camp in Jonesborough. Campers come to know that they are loved by Christ and the people called United Methodist Christians. In some cases, those suffering with HIV/AIDS will be touched and hugged for the first time in many weeks or months.
Thank you, Holston, for being the voice, hands, feet, and heart of Jesus for people who may have been shunned by their own churches. I am grateful for the many Strength for the Journey volunteers who give of their time, talent, resources and spiritual energy, garnered from their relationships with Jesus Christ.
