Spring Creek camp meeting: Recommitment can happen
September 20, 2011
The recent Spring Creek Camp Meeting near Calhoun, Tenn., provided an excellent venue for the people of the Cleveland District to come together and worship. Camp meeting's primary emphasis is on singing and preaching as instruments used to usher in the presence of the Holy Spirit so that conversion, renewal and recommitment can happen.
At one point in the evening, participants held up cardboard signs proclaiming their hurts and victories. For example, one woman held up a sign that said, "I couldn't have children ... but I adopted two great kids." A teenage girl revealed, "My parents got a divorce ... but God gave me and my family a blessing: Scott, my soon-to-be stepfather."
I loved the cardboard witnesses. It was a way to communicate testimonies of the transformational power of God in our lives. It was such a joy for me to be a part of the service.
