About Us
African American Ministry Team
Our Mission:
The African American Ministry Team (AAMT) was established in 2008 to identify, develop and make available resources, tools and training for African American churches in Holston. Wish to provide resources to empower and facilitate ethnic local churches to reach out locally and globally to make disciples of Jesus Christ through leadership development, evangelistic witness and community outreach.
Our Goals….
AAMT’s overall goal is to find ways to strengthen African American churches to meet the future needs of the community and the world. The Team is exploring ways to identify resources to assist African American churches as they serve the needs of their communities. Our goals are being formulated around the Four Areas of Focus:
1. Congregational Development. Work cooperatively to develop new congregations in consultation with annual conferences and districts.
a. Work with congregations to revitalize their ministries.
b. Develop and publish success stories of how African American Churches are making disciples of Jesus Christ
2. Leadership Training (Lay and Clergy).
a. Equip and encourage the next generation of leaders by helping to deal with current realities facing African American youth—discrimination, generational conflicts, the need for cultural understandings, and living in a multicultural, multiracial society.
b. Identify and train new and incumbent lay and clergy leaders for ministry in African American churches
3. Development of Community Ministries
a. Develop programs and services to better serve African Americans within their communities—legal services, education, social services, ministries to the poor (housing, employment, etc )
b. Create and nurture national, regional, and local partnerships and networks between local congregations and community-organizing grassroots groups.
4. Improving Health and Eradicating Killer Diseases
a. Churches to play a significant role in educating others about diseases
b. Facilitate access to doctors, nurses, medications and appropriate facilities is essential to good health and wellness and the church can play a significant role
c. Work to alleviate conditions that undermine quality of life and limit the opportunity to flourish as we believe God intends for all
