What is the purpose of Wesley Leadership Institute?

There are actually two purposes of the Wesley Leadership Institute. One is to provide continuing theological formation in the Wesleyan tradition. The other is to develop skills for effectively leading the church of Jesus Christ.

What is the goal of the Wesley Leadership Institute?

The desired end result of the Wesley Leadership Institute is that we create a culture of "doing things heartily (with excellence) as unto the Lord" in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Why do we need a Wesley Leadership Institute?

The Holston Conference, UMC is required by the Book of Discipline to provide continuing formation and education for ministry. The Discipline mandates that the Bishop, the Board of Ordained Ministry, and the Orders are the overseers and providers of such formation. There are any number of ways to see that continuing education happens in our conference. The Wesley Leadership Institute is the way our Bishop has suggested we begin.

The philosophy behind the Wesley Leadership Institute is that it is not enough to just throw around more knowledge and skill development. We must have a framework in which to place those skills for our particular purpose: carrying forward the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The foundation of Wesleyan theology has begun to erode across United Methodism; therefore, one of the most important things we can do in continuing education is to remind ourselves who we are in Christ ACCORDING TO JOHN WESLEY.
