Alcoa office closure extended to March 21

The Alcoa Conference Center has been officially open to the public only six weeks since March 2020.

March 3, 2021 update: The building will remain closed at least until March 21. Bishop Dindy Taylor will discuss reopening with top staff during the week of March 15.

ALCOA, Tenn. -- The Alcoa Conference Center will remain closed until at least March 15, according to an email sent from the bishop's office to Holston staff.

The office building for Bishop Dindy Taylor and conference staff has been closed since Nov. 12 in an effort to protect employees and visitors from COVID-19 exposure.

"The Bishop's Executive Team gathered this afternoon to discuss reopening the Conference Center. The decision was made to remain closed to the public until Monday, March 15, 2021," the Rev. Tim Jones, communications director, said in a Jan. 26 email.

"As the vaccine continues to roll out, it is our hope we will be able to open the Conference Center to the public soon. As always, the Bishop’s Executive Team will continue to reevaluate current conditions, and we will let you know if any changes to the current plan are necessary," Jones added.

While "essential business" may be carried out in the Alcoa building, most staff are required to work from home, according to the email.

It is the second long-term closure for Holston's headquarters. The building was closed the first time at the beginning of the pandemic, from mid-March to Oct. 1, 2020.
