Aug. 31 update: The need for churches to assemble emergency kits has escalated following Hurricane Ida. Please contact your district office for information on assembling and delivering the supplies.

ALCOA, Tenn. -- Church groups throughout Holston Conference are gearing up to collect cleaning and hygiene supplies to help neighbors in central Tennessee, after weekend flash floods left 18 dead and more than 270 homes destroyed.

On Friday, Aug. 27, Holston Conference will send a trailer full of “Cleaning Kits” and “Hygiene Kits” from its inventory to Williamson and Hickman Counties to help with the disaster recovery effort, said the Rev. Mike Sluder, connectional ministries director. Sluder said he is working with Tennessee Conference disaster response ministries to target where aid is needed.

Church groups are asked to begin assembling Cleaning Kits and Hygiene Kits – based on instructions prepared by UMCOR – to help Holston Conference send more supplies as needed to central Tennessee, as well as to replenish inventory for future disasters.
