Alcoa office closure extended to February 1

ALCOA, Tenn. -- The Alcoa Center will remain closed until at least Feb. 1, when Holston Conference leaders will again assess whether it is advisable to resume regular office activities amid surging coronavirus deaths.

Staff were informed the Holston headquarters building will remain closed in a Dec. 21 email from Communications Director Tim Jones.

Jones cited Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee's Dec. 20 executive order asking business employees to work from home if possible.

"With this in mind, the Bishop's Executive Team gathered this evening and decided to keep the Conference Center closed until February 1, 2021," Jones said. "Essential business will continue at the Conference Center, but all other business should be conducted from home."

The Alcoa office building has been closed since Nov. 12 in an effort to protect employees and visitors from COVID-19 exposure.

It is the second long-term closure for Holston's headquarters. The building was closed the first time at the beginning of the pandemic, from mid-March to Oct. 1, 2020.
