Asbury retirement homes and Hiwassee College discuss project

Hiwassee College and Asbury Place will hold a community event on May 21 at 6 p.m. to discuss the possibility of a joint project.

Hiwassee College and Asbury Place are set to host a community event to be held in the Hiwassee College auditorium on Tuesday, May 21, at 6 p.m.  The purpose of the event is to hold an open forum to discuss the public interest in Asbury Place establishing senior services on the Hiwassee College campus through a joint project. The public is encouraged to attend and admittance is free.

The guest speaker for the evening will be Steve Shields, President and CEO of Action Pact Development, LLC.  He will deliver a presentation on the topic of the senior services field.  Steve is an international leader in the creation of the “Household?Model.”  He was formerly the President and CEO of Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan, Kansas – an internationally known?senior living provider that pioneered and shaped the “Household?Model” in the late 1990’s.  Steve travels extensively to deliver keynote speeches and workshop education, and development assistance in long-term care.  Participants from over 40 states and 10 foreign countries have utilized these teachings to further deepen their culture change journeys.

The Tellico Village “Primetime Players” will be performing a sketch entitled, “Our Village.” The sketch was performed recently for the 25th anniversary of Tellico Village and was written, directed, and performed by the “Tellico Community Players.”

According to Debbie Mayberry, Past-President of the Players, “Our Village” is a satirical take on life in Tellico Village. “We poke a little fun at ourselves while dealing with what life is like as a senior citizen. The story runs through the history of the Village and contains poetry and music. It took us a year to put the whole thing together and we have a lot of fun performing it,” said Mayberry.

There will be a brief presentation on the new services offered at Asbury Place in Maryville, followed by an opportunity for questions and answers.  For additional information regarding this event, please contact Cassandra Anderson with the Hiwassee College Office of Institutional Advancement at 423-420-1222 or email at
