ALCOA, Tenn. (April 10, 2015) -- Bishop Mary Virginia Taylor announces the projected appointment of the Rev. Michael Sluder as director of connectional ministries, effective July 1.
Sluder grew up in Gray, Tenn., and attended Gray United Methodist Church. He is a graduate of Emory & Henry College, where he received a B.S. in Math and Physics. After accepting the call to ministry, Sluder attended Divinity School at Duke University where he received a Masters of Divinity in 1988. Sluder was ordained Elder in 1990 and is currently serving as the associate director of connectional ministries for missions. He has served churches in the Johnson City, Chattanooga, and Knoxville Districts. He married his childhood sweetheart, Lori, and they have been married for 31 years. They have two grown children, Josh and Katie.
Sluder follows the Rev. Stella Roberts, who served as Holston director of connectional ministries since 2013.
