My dear brothers and sisters,

The events of the past week have reminded us how quickly human relationships can deteriorate and permanent damage occur.

In light of the pain of Charlottesville and the divisive history it represents and the language of threat and war around the world, I ask the churches of the Holston Conference to reaffirm your commitment to "renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin" and "accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves."

These words that come from our baptismal covenant call us to the highest standards of our Christian commitment. Let us join in prayer for those who have been killed and injured, for those who live in fear, and for our witness to the one who is the Prince of Peace. You are in my prayers as you live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.

Grace and peace,

DINDY TAYLOR
Resident Bishop
Holston Annual Conference
