It was all excitement as East Africa Conference of the United Methodist Church welcomed Steve and Diantha Hodges in Kampala, Uganda. The couple who has offered to serve as individual volunteers in mission staff in Southern Sudan arrived in Uganda on Tuesday, Aug. 17.
They were formally received by Resident Bishop Daniel Wandabula and staff at the episcopal office in Kampala. Bishop Wandabula expressed appreciation to the couple for choosing to travel all the way from the United States in order to serve the disadvantaged community in Southern Sudan. He expressed appreciation to Bishop James Swanson and Holston Conference for promoting partnership with East Africa, pointing out that the coming of Steve and Diantha is part of the fruits of the partnership.
Bishop Wandabula recalled the first time Steve visited Sudan and the conversation he had with him regarding the possibility of returning to serve the community in the area. He expressed optimism about ministry activities in East Africa, pointing out that the team will promote leadership development and social welfare of the community in Southern Sudan. He pledged support to the couple as they serve the community in Sudan and East Africa as a whole.
