Holston sends cleaning supplies to UMCOR disaster depot

Holston workers load cleaning buckets and health kits on Sunday, Aug. 28.

MARION, Va. (Aug. 31, 2016) – Holston workers loaded up 563 cleaning buckets and 200 health kits on Aug. 28 in preparation for a delivery to Sager Brown Depot in Louisiana on Sept. 1.

The supplies were rounded up in response to a request from the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) on Aug. 25.

“Recent flooding, fires and storms in numerous conferences in the U.S. has nearly depleted our network supply of clean-up kits,” UMCOR staff Cathy Earl said in an email to annual conferences. “Your help is desperately needed to replenish the supply.”

The Rev. Harry Howe and others loaded cleaning supplies recently donated by Holston churches as well as supplies stockpiled for possible future disasters in Holston Conference. The trailer full of cleaning buckets and health kits had reached Hattiesburg, Miss., on Aug. 31 and was expected to arrive at Sager Brown Depot in Baldwin, La., by Sept. 1.

Churches are encouraged to help Holston replenish its own inventory. Visit the UMCOR site for instructions on assembling cleaning buckets or health kits. Then contact your district office or the Holston missions office (mikesluder@holston.org) for information on where to deliver the supplies.

Church members are also urged to give to UMCOR in response to recent disasters.
