Press release: Camp Wesley Woods represents Tennessee as one of 52 winners to share more than $1 million from Tom’s of Maine

TOWNSEND, Tenn. (Dec. 2, 2015) -- Camp Wesley Woods has been selected as one of 52 winners from across the country in the seventh annual Tom’s of Maine “50 States for Good” community giving program. Camp Wesley Woods will receive $20,000 to fund the construction of a new ropes course that will allow the camp to further its mission of giving campers of all ages the opportunity to experience adventure and be a part of their communities in the midst of God’s wondrous creation.

With this funding, Camp Wesley Woods will build a new ropes course. This ropes course will provide a much desired resource in which the camp will better be able to serve all of its campers and guests. The ropes course is scheduled to open in summer 2016, and will be available for campers who attend summer camp and its other camp programs; students and teachers through outdoor education; and retreat guests.

"The moment we learned we would be receiving the Tom’s of Maine funding our entire staff was ecstatic. We have been wanting a new ropes course for a while. A new course will allow us the ability to expand our adventure program, which is a vital part of all program areas, and will allow campers of all ages to not only experience something new but also to grow and learn," said Tony Lea, camp director.

Passionate community members took to their social media pages to share #OneWaytoHelp their communities, amassing nearly 10,000 submissions. One entrant representing each state and Washington, D.C. was selected to designate a local nonprofit in their area to receive project funding from Tom’s of Maine.
