A MAN WHOSE MOTHER is a member of our congregation has an incurable nerve disease. He recently lost his job and is without health insurance. Our ladies' aid group decided to have a luncheon and donate the proceeds to help. Later, the congregation decided to match the proceeds from the lunch. In the end, a church with 65 in average worship attendance gave more than $10,000 to a family to help pay for medical bills.
Perhaps it is related or unrelated, but the Sunday of the supper and the following Sunday, we had 81 to 87 in Sunday school and several more in worship.

WE HAVE AN ANNUAL community Thanksgiving service, hosted by Eden UMC, Bethesda UMC, and Bethel Church of Christ. Every year one of the three churches hosts the service, with their pastor speaking. All of the church choirs sing specials, concluding the evening with refreshments. This year Bethesda UMC hosted the service, and their sanctuary was completely full! The Thanksgiving service is a great way to meet with other congregations and denominations.
