Wanted by April 30: Cleaning supplies for destructive storms

Rachel McCausland, member at Broadway UMC in Maryville and member of the Conference Council on Youth Ministries (CCYM), helps assemble cleaning buckets at last June's Holston Annual Conference.

Holston churches are asked to collect “cleaning buckets” to replenish supplies used after recent spring storms and to prepare for future disasters. The goal deadline is April 30.

“Cleaning buckets” contain basic supplies (sponges, brushes, detergent, air freshener) to help disaster survivors clean their homes. Each bucket costs about $55 to assemble, according to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

“Cleaning buckets are a preparation asset we can begin to fill before the storms and not be caught after the storms looking for the supplies,” said Jim Fetzer, Holston disaster response coordinator. “All churches in the conference can contribute to this need.”

Church leaders should contact their district offices for information about where the buckets should be delivered until the buckets can be collected for UMCOR use. (See list.)

More information will be provided at Holston.org or on Facebook.
