Camp Dickenson announces new director: Anthony Gomez

A native of Richmond, Virginia, Anthony Gomez will begin as Camp Dickenson director on Feb. 4.

ALCOA, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2019) – A search and interview committee has selected Anthony Gomez as the new director for Camp Dickenson, a Holston Conference camp located in Fries, Virginia.

Gomez is a native of Richmond, Virginia, who grew up attending a United Methodist camp, Westview on the James. He has served on staff of two United Methodist camps: Westview on the James in Goochland, Virginia, and Lazy W Camp in San Juan Capistrano, California.

An alumnus of Miami University in Ohio, Gomez majored in health and exercise science and was a four-year employee of the Outdoor Pursuit Center.

He will begin as Camp Dickenson director on Feb. 4.

Mary Thompson, executive director of Holston Conference Camp and Retreat Ministries, said she was “thrilled” to welcome Gomez to Camp Dickenson. “His knowledge of camping ministry and the American Camping Association policies is exceptional,” she said.

The search and interview committee noted Gomez’ experience and ideas with marketing tools as well as his connections within the national United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries Association, Thompson said.

Gomez follows Michael Snow, who resigned in November 2018 after 10 years of faithful ministry as Camp Dickenson director.
