ALCOA, Tenn. -- Holston Annual Conference will not meet in person during its regularly scheduled June 2021 time in western North Carolina, according to an email sent today from Holston Conference Connectional Ministries.
The traditional gathering of lay and clergy leaders from Holston Conference's 853 churches and related ministries was scheduled for June 6-9, 2021. The email addressed to Holston clergy and district administrative assistants announced that COVID-19 and "gathering restrictions in North Carolina" would prevent the annual meeting from happening this year at Lake Junaluska Conference Center.
"An Annual Conference Subcommittee has been formed to research other venues and ways to hold this year's Annual Conference," according to the email. "Additional information will be forthcoming."
The COVID-19 pandemic also interfered with the 2020 Holston Annual Conference, causing it to be modified and conducted in segmented virtual gatherings. The 2020 service of ordination has been scheduled for March 6, 2021.
