Holston treasurer: No action needed for Affordable Care Act

The Holston Conference health insurance plan meets all federable guidelines and has been deemed affordable under the regulations set forth by the Affordable Health Care Act, said Rick Cherry, treasurer.

"Participants, both lay and clergy, need to take no action regarding their health care coverage at the present time," he said.

Open enrollment for health insurance coverage through the new Health Insurance Marketplace begins Oct. 1 for coverage starting as early as January 1, 2014.

The treasurer's office also sent an advisory letter last week to district offices with instructions for churches on how to complete an employee disclosure form related to the Affordable Care Act Notice.

District offices were requested to forward the advisory letter by Oct. 1 to churches that "offer health insurance coverage through the Holston Conference to all their eligible employees, defined as lay employees working 30 hours per week over a 12 month average; and clergy appointed by the Bishop at 75 percent or greater appointment percentage."
