Franklin Clifton


DAVIS BEND, Ky. -- Franklin Clifton, 66, died July 5 at his home.

He was a retired Holston lay pastor who had served Staffordsville Circuit (1981-1985), Shady Grove (1985-1987), Clear Springs-Pleasant Grove (1987-1989), Greystone Circuit (1989-1992), Woodway Circuit (1992-1995), Mechanicsburg Circuit (1995-1996), Shiloh (1996-1999), Draper Circuit (1999-2005), and Sneedville Circuit (2005-2007). He retired in 2007.

Clifton is survived by his wife, Kermit Ann Clifton of Davis Bend; two children, Jennifer Clifton Parsons and husband, Jeff, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Laura Ann Clifton Smith and husband, Matthew, of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Aletha Ann Gayle Parsons, John Aaron Steven Parsons, Thomas Jason Alexander Parsons, Elisabeth Nicole Dawn Parsons, Matthew Heath Smith II and Luke Alexander Smith; a half-sister, Nancy Clifton Bormes of Martin; three nephews, Chester Witten III, Christopher Bormes and Allen Bormes.

A memorial mass was conducted at St. Gregory Catholic Church Saturday on July 9 with the Rev. Father Peter Joseph and the Rev. Father Anthony Muthu officiating. Inurnment followed in Davis Cemetery.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Robert Byars Hudson, 81, died July 2 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.

The Rev. Hudson was a retired Holston elder who had served Centenary-Cattanooga, associate (1957-1960); Trinity-Knoxville (1960-1964); Colonial Heights-Knoxville (1964-1966); First Chattanooga (1966-1967); First-Centenary, pastoral care (1967-1968); First Elizabethton 1968-1971); First Cleveland (1971-1974); LaFollette-Mt.Zion (1974-1976); First Bluefield (1976-1980); First Galax (1080-1986); Mountain View-Kingsport (1986-1987); Holston Conference Foundation, director (1987-1990); and Office of Administrative Services, director (1990-1996). He retired in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Rogers Hudson; two sons, Stephen Craig Hudson, Covington, Ga., and Robert Darryl Hudson, Bluefield, Va.; six grandchildren, Alison, Robert, Andrew, Megan, Lauren and Thomas; and three great grandchildren, Colin, Cynthia and Eli.

A celebration of life service was held July 6 at Munsey Memorial UMC with Bishop Kenneth Carder, Rev. Brian Taylor, Rev. Michael Lester, and Rev. Jerry Everley officiating. A committal service was held July 6 at at Holston Conference Cemetery in Emory, Va.
