LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 2, 2018) -- The United Methodist Women (UMW) of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lenoir City celebrated their Christmas luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 2.
Three individuals were recognized for outstanding work during 2017. Each year, all UMW members vote for two individuals to be honored with a Special Gift to Missions in their names to be presented at the luncheon. Anyone in the church (not just UMW members) who makes an outstanding effort for the church is eligible for this honor. This year’s honorees are Bob Brown and Lisa Reed.
UMW President Gwen Yerger was also honored with a 150-year United Methodist Women Legacy pendant for her support of UMW through the years. She has been president of United Methodist Women at two other churches. In 2018, she will be serving her fifth year as president of Trinity’s group.
United Methodist Women is celebrating its 150th anniversary by strengthening and passing on its mission inheritance with the Legacy Fund. The forward-looking permanent endowment will provide a firm foundation for generations of United Methodist Women to come as they engage in mission with the women, children, and youth of their day.
The Legacy Fund’s income will ensure a regular source of support for the core expenses of being in mission. It will fund United Methodist Women grants, scholarships, mission personnel, membership nurture, and leadership development, as well as enable the organization to make much-needed technological updates to its data and communications operating systems.
