The Holston Conference Foundation recently awarded Margaret Loving Trust grants to senior adult ministries developed by Holston-related groups. A total $42,084 was awarded to 20 groups. A total of $74,000 was requested.
Here are 2009 recipients;
- Beaver Ridge UMC (Oak Ridge District): $1,000 for a "fellowship garden" and walking path for planting, relaxation, exercise, meditation
- Broad Street UMC (Cleveland District): $1,500 for "Mini Jubilation," including Bible study, music, education, and food
- Holston Conference Camp and Retreat Ministries: $1,800 to provide a Buffalo Mountain "Celebration Camp" for 40 older adults with special abilities
- Holston Conference Camp and Retreat Ministries: $2,500 to provide "Senior Adult Days" at Camp Lookout
- Concord UMC (Oak Ridge District): $4,000 to provide scholarships for CADES, or Concord Adult Day Enrichment Services for seniors unable to stay home alone
- Community UMC (Kingsport District): $2,000 for a Tuesday night supper with music and games
- First Bristol UMC (Abingdon District): $2,864 for a parish nurse partnership with Wellmont Health System
- First Rogersville UMC (Kingsport District): $1,000 for a Tuesday night home-cooked meal with devotions
- First Oak Ridge UMC (Oak Ridge District): $1,200 for Keystone Adult Day Program
- Heiskell UMC (Oak Ridge District): $2,000 for weekly exercise classes and Bible study and monthly meals
- Holston Conference Foundation: $2,500 for Personal Information Booklets
- Holston Conference Senior Ministries: $2,500 to establish older adult ministries councils in each district
- Luminary UMC (Oak Ridge District): $1,000 to offer a health fair
- Mt. Olivet UMC (Wytheville District): $1,500 to provide videos of worship services for shut-ins
- New Salem UMC (Chattanooga District): $2,000 to prepare meals twice monthly for 45-60 seniors
- Rural Retreat UMC (Wytheville District): $2,020 for a parish nurse ministry
- Seymour UMC (Maryville District); $1,000 to establish an older adult council
- Spring City UMC (Maryville District): $3,000 for "Let's Do Lunch," a monthly meal with devotions for senior ladies
- Trinity Greeneville UMC (Morristown District): $1,500 to teach seniors how to use computers
- Valley View UMC (Oak Ridge District): $2,200 for HOPE, or Help Older People Excel, providing food and utility assistance to the needy
- Wesley House Community Center (Knoxville District): $3,000 for WISE, or Wellness in Seniors Education, provide Bible study, crafts, music, bingo, field trips, and phone calls
