Pass the tortilla chips: Clergy wedge stewardship classes into busy week

Pass the tortilla chips: Clergy wedge stewardship classes into busy week

It wasn't a laidback week for many, but 214 pastors left their towns after Sunday worship on Feb. 3 to attend the annual Ministers' Convocation in Lake Junaluska, N.C.

Bookended between the Super Bowl on Sunday and Ash Wednesday services on Feb. 6, this year's Convocation attracted fewer clergy than in previous years. In 2007, attendance was 303.

The theme was "Living Stewardship." Speakers at the continuing education event included Bishop Kenneth Carder ("Stewards in God's Household," "Cultivating Generosity") and the Rev. Michael Reeves ("Effective Financial Communication").
