The 37th Annual Holston Conference Ministers' Wives Retreat was hosted by the Chattanooga and Cleveland Districts on March 11-13, 2010 in Sevierville, TN. The theme "Celebrate Your Blessings" fulfilled the purpose of this organization in every sense as it provided fellowship, personal growth and ministry to all that attended.
There were 71 in attendance. Districts represented were Abindgon, Big Stone Gap, Chattanooga, Cleveland, Johnson City, Kingsport, Knoxville, Maryville, Morristown, Oak Ridge, Tazewell and Wytheville.
The retreat focus scripture was Lamentations 3:22-23. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not, they are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Rev. Rhonda Hobbs, Executive Pastor of Burks UMC located in Chattanooga, TN blessed us spiritually with passionate words of encouragement and empowerment. She reminded each of us that we are created in God's image and that we are to be open for the prompting (winks) of God in our lives as he directs and guides us. Her testimony as a cancer survivor inspired us to make the choice to live life and to not just pass the time.
Information was provided to the attendees by the Holston Methodist Federal Credit Union and the Partners in Crisis. We were updated on a new e-mail address for conference wives email@example.com. E-mail your prayer requests, miscellaneous announcements, praise reports, retreat and spouses' luncheon updates or any other information you want passed along to the Holston wives. Vicki Malone of the Chattanooga District has volunteered to be the contact person and will keep us informed. There is also a Facebook page under "Holston Conference UMC Spouses of Pastors/Clergy".
The ministers' wives conference officers are President -DeAnne Burch, Vice-President-Beth Green, Treasurer-Mary Ethel Brannock and Scrapbook-Beth Murphy.
We were blessed indeed to experience renewal through spiritual enrichment, music, smiles and much laughter. The faithfulness of God's mercies encourages us to pass this fellowship on to others. Out of the 904 churches in our conference we have a total of 797 active and retired wives per information gathered from the conference office. As we continue to "celebrate our blessings" let each one reach one, two or three and increase our retreat attendance. Hope to see you next March as we gather again!
