MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 18, 2014) -- The members of First United Methodist Church in Mountain City celebrated the first group of participants completing their new Covenant Bible Study program on Nov. 9. The celebration, held midway through the morning worship service, recognized each participant for their dedication and perseverance of daily Scripture reading and Sunday evening group discussions.
Certificates of Participation were given to each member who had experienced this new 24-week program of in-depth, inductive study. Rev. Sandra Johnson, Abingdon District superintendent, and Rev. Richard Hayes presented the certificates. The group was shy five individuals who could not attend but would be recognized for their achievement later.
Ken Fowler, Cokesbury Community Resource Consultant (CRC), was also on hand to congratulate these Covenant participants on their accomplishment.
Covenant Bible Study is the latest Bible study designed for the serious Bible student. This study centers around our relationship with God, with each other, and with the world. It differs from other Bible studies in that it emphasizes the biblical concept of Covenant -- the enduring commitment between God and people -- as a unifying pattern throughout the entire Bible. As such, it underscores the unique relationship that God chooses with us as his people.
