Scholarship fund, concert in Scruggs memory

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Sept. 11, 2017) -- The BWUMC Booker T. Scruggs II Fund has been established in memory of a beloved United Methodist, musician, and mentor.

Booker Scruggs, a member at Bethlehem-Wiley United Methodist Church, died on June 5. The fund in his memory will send recipients to camps, retreats and conferences or provide small scholarships to help college students pay for books and tuition, according to the Rev. Willie Kitchens. The board expects to begin taking applications for assistance through the fund in 2018.

On Nov. 18, Bethlehem-Wiley will celebrate 150 years of existence by renaming its fellowship hall after Scruggs.

To donate to the Scruggs Fund, send checks to: Bethlehem-Wiley United Methodist Church, 502 Lookout Street, Chattanooga, TN 37403-1713.

On Oct. 1, St. Luke United Methodist Church in Chattanooga will host a concert in Scruggs' memory, featuring the Booker T. Scruggs Ensemble. The concert begins at 3 p.m.
