Still have gifts to give? Honor friends and family with alternative Christmas gifts that won't end up on a shelf but will change lives in South Sudan.

"Holston Conference is in the process of building an orphanage for the most vulnerable children," said Libby Dearing, Holston missionary in Yei, South Sudan.  "The goal is to care for these children mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually."

The orphanage is designed to have the feel of a family home, Dearing said. Four houses will accommodate six children and a housemother. "The children will attend the United Methodist school and church," she said. "I am hoping to start fencing the area very soon to start construction."

Your Christmas gift will help support these children. Send a check for one or more of the following gift options (below), then send Christmas cards to your loved ones to let them know your life-giving gift has been designated in their honor. Choose a one-time gift or expand it for a period of time:

  • $10 per month buys clothing, shoes, and hygiene products for a child
  • $20 per month pays school fees for a primary school student
  • $25 per month feeds a child age 1 to 3 years old
  • $60 per month feeds a child age 4 or older

Make checks to "Holston Conference," using the memo line to indicate how the gift should be used. Mail to: Holston Conference, P.O. Box 850, Alcoa, TN 37701-0850, Attn: Anne Travis.
