Recuerdo que a la edad de cinco años, mis padres decidieron mudarse de Dallas, Texas, para Virginia y buscar trabajo en las manzanas (apple orchards). No llevábamos casi nada de pertenencias, pues viajábamos en un carro pequeño.
 
Empecé la escuela y como si fuera ayer recuerdo que no tenía más de dos cambios de ropa. Los maestros empezaron a notar que por dos semanas alternadamente cambiaba de ropa, pero siempre era la misma. Y empezaron hacer preguntas.

Algunos de los maestros pertenecían a la Iglesia Monte de Sion Metodista Unida en Comers Rock, Virginia. ¡Alguien me dijo que una niña un poco más grande que yo se dio cuenta de la situación y decidió por si sola darme casi toda su ropa!

Recuerdo que no pasaron ni tres días cuando empezaron a llegar camionetas con ropa, comida, juguetes, y muchas más cosas que las que podríamos usar.
 Esta gente que ni nos conocía atendió a nuestra necesidad. Nos aceptaron como parte de su comunidad, de su iglesia, y sus propias familias.

Tal vez ellos ni recuerden lo que hicieron; quizás pensaron que sembraron de en balde. Creo que nunca se imaginaron que su acto de bondad tendría tan grande impacto en nuestra familia.

Lo que sí sé es que Dios no se equivoca y que cuando uno siembra, el Señor se encarga de dar el fruto. Quiero agradecer a la Iglesia Monte de Sion Metodista Unida en Comers Rock, Virginia, por lo que hicieron. Gracias por dejarse usar como una pieza fundamental para que el plan de Dios se llevará a cabo en mí y en mi familia.

Desde aquel entonces hasta el día de hoy, muchos han marcado mi vida y me han ayudado a ser quien soy hoy por la gracia de Dios. El Señor es el que ha estado detrás de todo. “Porque yo sé los planes que tengo acerca de ustedes,” dice el Señor, “planes de bienestar y no de mal.” (Jeremías 29:11)

No nos cansemos hermanos/as de hacer el bien, sin mirar a quien. Pues el Señor se encarga de dar el fruto a su tiempo. Nunca pienses que ha sido de en balde, sigamos dando de gracia lo que de gracia hemos recibido.
 
Y llegará el día que el Rey nos dirá, “en cuanto lo hicieron a uno de estos mis hermanos más pequeños, a mí me lo hicieron.” (Mateo 25:40)

"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. -- Psalm 138:8

When I was five years old, my parents decided to move from Dallas, Texas, to Virginia to look for work in the apple orchards. We hardly carried anything belonging to us, because we were traveling in a small car.

I began school and as if it were yesterday, I remember that I didn't have more than two changes of clothes. The teachers began to note that for two weeks alternatively I would change clothes, but it was always the same. And they began to ask questions. 

Some of the teachers belonged to the Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Comers Rock, Va. Someone told me that a girl a little older than me realized the situation and decided by herself to give me almost all of her clothes!

It wasn't three days later when I remember that trucks with clothes, toys, food, and many more things that we could use began to arrive. These people who didn't even know us were attending to our needs. They accepted us as part of their community, their church, and their own families.

Perhaps they don't remember what they did; perhaps they thought they sowed in vain. I believe they never imagined their act of goodness would have so great an impact on our family.

What I do know is that God doesn't make mistakes and when one sows, the Lord takes charge of giving the fruit. I want to thank the Mount Zion Church in Comers Rock, Va., for what they did. Thank you for allowing yourselves to be used as a foundational piece so that God's plan would be fulfilled in me and in my family.

From that time until today, many have marked my life and have helped me to be who I am today by God's grace. The Lord is the one who has been behind it all. "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you." (Jeremiah 29:11)

Let's not tire, brothers and sisters, of doing good, regardless to whom. The Lord will take charge of giving the fruit in his time. Never think that it has been in vain. Let's continue giving from grace that which we have received from grace.

And the day will arrive on which the King will say to us, "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." (Matthew 25:40)
