United Methodist Women encourage walk-ins for weekend meeting

Lynice Broyles (far left) will be installed as Holston's UMW president during this weekend's meeting.

If you've ever considered attending the Holston United Methodist Women's Annual Meeting, Lynice Broyles hopes it will be this weekend.

In fact, walk-ins are encouraged for the Sept. 13-14 meeting in Lake Junaluska, N.C., which will feature Bishop Mary Virginia "Dindy" Taylor as this year's keynote speaker.

"Our brochure didn't go out as early and we are low in numbers," said Broyles, who will be installed as Holston's new UMW president this weekend. "I would love to see us run out of programs because we had more people walk in."

The theme is "Fruit of the Spirit" based on Galatians 5:22-23. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethea Welcome Center near the entrance way for the Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center. The event concludes midday on Sunday. (See schedule.)

Marva Usher-Kerr, executive secretary for membership for the General Board of Global Ministries' Women's Division, will lead a Saturday-morning focus group for young women.

The gathering will also feature a hands-on mission activity, officer training, a concert and worship.

The event's registration fee is $20. Saturday night accommodations vary and are available on the brochure or by calling 800-222-4930 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Preregistered participants who pay for their accommodations in full in advance may avoid possible lines at Bethea Welcome Center and will be able to pick up their room keys at Terrace Inn or Lambuth Inn beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday. Pay in advance at 800-222-4930.

Walk-in participants may pay for their accommodations at Bethea between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday. After 5 p.m., payments will be accepted at the front desks for Terrace or Lambuth.
