Zaevion Dobson's mom, community remember him two years after his death

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 17, 2017) -- On Sunday, exactly two years after his death, Zenobia Dobson sat the seat where her son worshiped in Martin Chapel United Methodist Church. Fifteen-year-old Zaevion Dobson laid down his own life to save his friends during a shooting in Lonsdale on Dec. 17, 2015.

The church and community dedicated the service to Zaevion and his legacy.

"In this community it's become almost like a merit badge of strength saying, 'I'm from Lonsdale, we come from people like Zaevion, you know,'"  said Mark Brown.

No one in the community is more proud than Zaevion's mom, Zenobia Dobson.

"Today is ... I feel happy," said Zenobia. "My spirit does. I'm just happy to know that he sacrificed his life for his friends."

As the congregation sang, danced, and worshiped the Lord, Zenobia says she felt Zaevion's presence.

"To be siting here in his seat, it makes me really happy," said Zenobia. "Because this is where he sits on Sundays. I can feel his spirit. He lets me know that he's okay and I know he's with the Lord. So my heart to heaven, I salute him."
