Knox Tennova Medical Centers Withdraw from "S" Network

BCBST Members May Upgrade to "P" Network: Change Forms Due 4.30.2021

On March 26, 2021, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee announced that both Tennova Medical Centers (the hospital facilities) in Knoxville (Powell and Farragut locations) are withdrawing from the BCBST "S" Network effective June 1, 2021.  Tennova will remain in the BCBST "Preferred" or "P" network.

Holston clergy and lay employees who participate in the "S" network may upgrade to the "P" network if desired by submitting a change form to juliegraham@holston.org by April 30, 2021. Please note that the "P" Network has a higher premium (see the 2021 Rate Sheet here).

FAQ​:  Tennova Hospitals in Knoxville Withdrawing From “S” Network

What does it really mean to you?

On June 1, 2021, Tennova Healthcare North Knoxville Medical Center in Powell, Tennessee and Tennova Healthcare Turkey Creek Medical Center in Farragut, Tennessee will withdraw from the Blue Cross Blue Shield “S” Network.

Q:        Can I upgrade to Network “P” and still use these Tennova Medical  Centers?

A:         Yes! Please click here to complete the necessary form to switch networks. Email the completed form to juliegraham@holston.org by April 30, 2021. Changes will be effective June 1, 2021.

Q:        Does Network “P” cost more?

A:         Yes, it does. Please click here to to view the 2021 rate sheet. Look at the column on the right for the “P” network premiums.

Q:        What is the deadline to submit the change form to Network “P”?

A:         The change form is due by April 30, 2021.

 Q:        If I switch to Network “P,” when will the change be effective?

A:         The change will be effective June 1, 2021.

 Q:        How do I change the amount withheld from my paycheck if I choose to switch to Network “P”?

A:         Notify whomever administers your payroll as soon as possible about the change so they can withhold the correct amount from your check.

Q:        If my doctor has an office at one of the Tennova locations, but I do not use the hospital, do I need to find a new doctor?

A:         No. Just because your doctor has offices at the Tennova facilities does not mean that they are withdrawing from the “S” network. However, if your doctor orders tests or surgery, and you have them performed at Tennova Healthcare Center after May 31, 2021, these will be billed at the out-of-network rate…which could be quite expensive

Q:        What questions should I ask my doctor if they are located at Tennova North or Tennova Turkey Creek?

A:         Ask your doctor if they have admitting privileges at any other area hospitals. Ask them to make a note in your file that your insurance is out of network for both Tennova hospital facilities. Also, it’s a good idea to double check to be sure your doctor is remaining in Network “S”.

Q:        What if I have a true emergency and Tennova is the closest Emergency Room available?

A:         If you have a true emergency, then you may still use the Tennova Emergency Room.
