Holston Conference Camp and Retreat Ministries has raised $874,000 in a victorious campaign that will prepare five camps for the future, according to a live video presentation on May 25.
The Rev. Mary Thompson, executive director, announced the news at the conclusion of a 36-minute video. Over the next six weeks, she said, supporters are invited to help the camps raise the final $25,000 in the “Together for Tomorrow” campaign.
Holston’s five camps include Bays Mountain, Camp in the Community, Dickenson, Lookout, and Wesley Woods.
The video revealed that 729 total donors had contributed to the campaign so far, including the Holston Foundation, which is celebrated on the camps’ 2021 official shirts. The Holston Foundation donated $150,000 to the fundraising effort.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced the closing of the five camps in summer 2020 to keep staff and campers safe and prevent virus spread. The 2021 camp season opens to campers on June 7. Staff are currently completing their training.
