Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch
26 Then an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Get up and go toward the south[a] to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (This is a wilderness road.) 27 So he got up and went. Now there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of the Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, in charge of her entire treasury. He had come to Jerusalem to worship. Acts 8:26-27 (NRSV)

Get up and go!

“Get up and go!” This phrase is like an alarm waking us up to start our day. This is a phrase that is often used in The Bible. We see this in Acts when Cornelius, a centurion was told in a vision to see Peter (Acts 10). We have seen it at the burning bush when Moses was commissioned to bring his people out of bondage by God (Exodus 3). We have seen it in other places in Scripture as well. Get up and go. A proclamation. A command. An example of the Holy Spirit triggering an action. Phillip is experiencing it in Acts 8. He had no idea where he was going. He had no idea why. But he heard the angel of the Lord speak and he went. He went to this place he did not think he would dare go. Get up and go.

Have you ever had that moment? When you felt God calling you? Maybe God was calling you on a journey that you were not sure where you would end up? Maybe God was calling you to start a ministry, but you were afraid of taking the risk. Phillip did not question but simply surrendered and went. There Phillip met an Ethiopian, and helped him understand the Scriptures. He led the Ethiopian to become a believer. Phillip had the courage to surrender and go. Do you?

Where is God calling you? What is holding you back from answering that Call? We are all called by God in some form. Maybe you have been called to be a Pastor or a teacher? Maybe God is moving in you to invite your neighbor to church. Whatever it is, my hope and prayer for you is that you can surrender to the call like Phillip, and get up and go.
