“What A Friend”
Romans 5: 6-11 (KJV)

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

Devotion

What does it mean to be a Christian? Do we show the love, grace, and mercy to others that is required of us? I find myself thinking about the sacrifice of Christ and realize that I sometimes fall short in so many ways. Thankfully, you and I serve a risen Savior who helps us in our time of need!

The passage in Romans 5: 6-11 is a reminder of the wonderful help that Jesus gives us. When we were unable to help ourselves, Christ died on the cross to pay a debt we couldn’t pay. It tells us that very few people would save the life of a good person, much less someone who isn’t. So that leads me to the question, could we? Could we make that kind of sacrifice for someone else? Would we be able to show that kind of love and mercy? I would dare say that most of us could not.

Praise God this morning that God did that very thing! While we were living in a life riddled with sin, God loved us so much that He sent Jesus to the cross so that our very sin can be forgiven. We have been made right with God and have been transformed from and enemy of God to a friend of God! Through this ultimate sacrifice we can rejoice! We can rejoice that we are not only redeemed, but we are now living a life where God is leading and guiding us down the path of righteousness. The choices we make apart from God can lead us to a life that will bring about trouble. However, with God by our side we can live a life showing that very same love, grace, and mercy that is required of us.

What a friend we have in Jesus today! Because of the sacrifice Jesus Christ we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. Through that very guidance through Jesus, we can live the life we are called to live, to be a “bright light in a dark world.” Hold your head up and be strong in the Lord! God has got this and so do you!

Prayer

Heavenly Father thank you for your friendship. Help us to understand your love, grace, and mercy. When we head in the wrong direction, pull us back. Father thank you so very much for the unseen things you do, thank you for the gift of salvation, the gift of victory. Lead, guide, and direct us in all things. Amen
