1 Timothy 4:6-16

“Do not neglect the gift that is in you…” 1 Timothy 4:14a
God gifts each of us as we seek to serve His Kingdom. One way I see His gifts in me is to witness His gifts in other lives. I am grateful to have served with unique children of God in a variety of churches. I recall an owner of the Western Auto in a small county seat town in Virginia. He was convinced to dress in a rabbit costume at Easter. He hid Easter Eggs in our town cemetery. Man was it ever hot in that outfit! He loved it, and the town’s children had a wonderful experience. In another church I remember a man battling cancer, and as a result he lost much of his sinus cavity and one eye. He was a ball of fire for God when I knew him. He ran marathons, and he used that setting to witness to God’s presence. Also, I still have a lot appreciation for a family in a church I served as a student appointment. He cut timber. He did not own the timber. He cut those trees. My wife and I had very little in common with these lovely people in terms of life experience. Yet, we ate lots of country cooking at their table. We loved them for more than their beans and “taters”. They attended Sunday evening services on the foggiest of nights. Wow! That was going the extra mile! I still remember a woman in another church coming up with a simple way of celebrating the birthday of children in our/her church. She was filled with a beautiful spirit. God used His spirit in her to make young people feel important in their church.
This would be a good word for our Brother Timothy and the young church. Celebrate the God given gifts of people in the Body of Christ. Do not neglect to do this. In rejoicing in the giftedness of others we are lead to value even more our own God given abilities.
Prayer: God lead me to see great value in the gifts of all your Children. In the light of celebrating the gifts of others show me how to value what you have given me. Amen.
