ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. -- Interim Youth Minister

First United Methodist Church in Elizabethton seeks an Interim Youth Minister during a period of transition. A successful candidate will be given consideration as a permanent hire as a part-time employee after our search has concluded. Job responsibilities would be as follows:
 
1. Provide leadership to our overall youth ministry, by modeling and raising the values of a Christ-centered lifestyle within the youth of our church.
 
2. Facilitate the training and mobilizing of our youth to develop relationships with the un-churched, to actively witness to persons within the sphere of their influence, and to make Christ-like disciples of those responding to their witness.
 
3. Collaborate with the church’s staff in the creation of new ministries as needed to accomplish the vision and mission of the church as it pertains to secondary school-age youth.
 
4. Make and maintain positive relationships with leaders in the community, especially those leaders of our schools and other youth organizations.
 
5. Establish strong relationships with the youth of our church, maximizing the ministry impact in their lives.
 
6. Provide spiritual direction to youth on an individual basis.
 
7. Maintain contact with youth and parents, keeping them informed of ongoing activities. Keep parents updated on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement.
 
8. Seek to integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries.
 
9. Participate in staff meetings, one-on-one meetings with the Pastor, Council meetings, and other meetings necessary to lead an effective youth ministry. Attend regular and special services of the church.
 
10. Adequate planning and preparation for all services, meetings, and activities must be done, so that each event will be effective in accomplishing its stated purpose.
 
11. Establish a weekly Youth specific time of worship/fellowship (e.g. Wednesday nights, Sunday nights) in addition to a weekly Sunday School class (11:15-12:00).
