2023 Holston Appointment Making Information

2023 Holston Appointment Making Information

Dear Friends,

In the United Methodist world, we have entered the season of the year known as appointment-making. I consider this work of matching clergy and churches to be a holy and sacred privilege.

This year’s process will involve several meetings. Meeting 1 took place this week (February 14-15) and was preceded by district superintendents consulting with moving clergy and receiving churches. In addition, a team of district superintendents met with each moving pastor to discuss strengths, growing edges, hope and dreams.

The district superintendents described and prayed for each receiving church and moving clergy at the beginning of the first appointment-making meeting. Please join us in prayer for God’s leadership as we make appointments for the upcoming conference year.

Calendar: Below is the calendar for the 2023 appointment-making season.
  • Appointment-Making Cabinet Meeting 1: February 14-16
  • Appointment-Making Cabinet Meeting 2:  February 26, 27 and March 1
  • Appointment-Making Meeting 3: March 21 and March 22
  • Finalize Appointments: April 11
  • Moving Clergy will receive calls from their District Superintendents on April 13
  • Churches receiving new pastors will be called on April 14
  • Appointments will be announced in churches receiving new clergy on Sunday morning April 16 and posted on the Conference website that afternoon
Another important part of our work involves onboarding newly appointed pastors. Clergy and leaders in receiving churches are requested to participate in an onboarding experience led by a trained facilitator. Onboarding is designed to help moving clergy and receiving churches get acquainted quickly and well.  A one-day onboarding session can fast forward the relationship of a new pastor and receiving church by as much as a year.

If you have questions about our 2023 appointment-making process or schedule, contact your District Superintendent.

It is a gift to serve the clergy and churches of the Holston Conference.  Thank you for who you are and the difference you are making in the Holston Conference and beyond.

As always it is a joy to serve as your bishop.

Blessings,

Debra Wallace-Padgett
Resident Bishop
